Your guide to the perfectly executed Christmas cocktail attire

While it’s easy to grab a bottle of wine and go on the holidays, we both know you’re better off, but there are certain rules and guidelines that you must follow when dressing up for your favorite party. A dress code? Is this host Insta-friendly? Read on for tips and tricks to stay true to yourself this holiday season and make a stylish entrance every time.

When to Wear Cocktail Attire
Wear cocktail party outfits with a festive atmosphere that requires you to dress up. These can be weddings, reunions, engagement parties, graduation parties, and Christmas parties. Cocktail parties are generally organized in the evening. Be careful with the surroundings: outside or inside, business event or wedding: to determine the right attire for a cocktail party. For more formal events, you might want to wear more conservative cocktail attire. For more casual or outdoor events or cocktail events scheduled for the day, you can choose something brighter and more convenient.

Guide to Cocktail Attire for Women
Cocktail dresses are generally knee-length and come in a range of colors, the most classic being the light black dress. As a rule of thumb, avoid maxi and mini dresses and choose something in between. However, you don’t have to. Overalls, trouser suits, blazers, and blouses made of fine materials are excellent alternatives to a cocktail dress for a cocktail party. Complete your look with elegant shoes such as high heels or pretty flats.

  • The rule of thumb for a white party dress is that it must not be tight, see-through, too short, or too long. Basically, what’s in the middle of the formal and informal spectrum? Everything from a classic little white dress (LWD) to an aline, strapless, embellished, lace, or long-sleeved midi dress is your safe choice. We will converse this more in an instant.
    • Think about natural colors and fresh styles during the day and use darker shades and embellishments like sequins or feathers at night (as long as your dress doesn’t sweep the floor). Look polished and elegant, but not so elegant to take away from the bride.
    • In case of doubt, your best LBD, a sensible pair of high heels or elegant flats, a pair of pretty earrings, and a stylish clutch will always go well with a cocktail event, no matter where or what time of day. In addition to a normal cocktail dress, women can also wear elegant suits or pretty jumpsuits with heels or formal flats.
